In fact, neither removals do.  And it also looks like relying on dnotify
involves too much bookkeeping and tuning, FAM (as in Bruno's work)
seems to do part of that on its own and is probably a better choice.

I agree with Bruno about symlinks, they are not optimal, but I'd
discard the `unsupported on such and such filesystem' issue.  I mean,
if someone wants to run something this bold and unusual, they might as
well leave VFAT behind and get some *nix CDs.
