[cad-linux] Re: varicad and kde-3

Maria seems to be using an unofficial test version of KDE 3 for Debian
Woody, (Woody is shipped with KDE 2.2).
The Debian VariCAD version is compiled for Woody, so therefore
it expects KDE 2.2, and that's why it doesn't work on her system.

Either she have to figure out how to install the KDE 2.2 stuff that
VariCAD needs, preferably without breaking her current KDE 3 :), or
then she could try to use the SuSE version of VariCAD:
1. DL the SuSE version of VariCAD
2. convert the .rpm file to a .deb file with alien
   (alien name_of_package.rpm, you need to be root)
3. Install the converted VariCAD deb package
   (command: dpkg -i name_of_package.deb)
4. start VariCAD with the following command:
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libqt-gl.so.2 varicad

(Search the archive for thread "Varicad/Debian howto" starting 5 march
2002 for an "in depth" explanation.)

I haven't tested this myself, as i still use Woody with the "vanilla"
KDE 2.2, no guarantee and so on :)
