what about sticking in a few rules for the subject line when you post e.g.

[annonunce] something v3.557-9 released!
[technical] vectoral quantum file database format

(just some quick examples)

That way you can create mail rules for the same mailing list. If the technical 
folder fills up quick, just check it once a month, else your normal cad-linux 
mail is unaffected and you can read it each day. You'd need to make up some 
rules and then politely enforce for the inital period.
