[cad-linux] Re: simple yet powerful 3d cad for newbie

if all you need is a modeler for rendering/show and tell then you have a wide
range of choices. i would recomend one with very good pov or bmrt support.

i'm a fan of the Blue Moon Rendering Tools so i like to plug it when ever i
can. the modeler that i use for my renders is called Ayam3D. i recoment it
for bmrt/rib work.

for pov you might look into Midnight Modeler, MoonLight 3D, Cycas, Giram,
3DPM, or Aero(they were supposed to be coming out with a new TK version).

AC3D works with both povray and bmrt but does not really support eithers
shaders/textures. it is the easiest to learn out of all of the above.

links to all of these except maybe Aero can be found on my cad page.

Aero is a 3D simulation system. it also exports to povray. very slick.

and as someone mentioned on another thread there is BRL-Cad.
it does 3D CSG and supports procedural shaders(among other things) for
rendering.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of DOS,
and danced the skies on Linux silvered wings.
