Hi all,
I'm very interested with the discussion about making a CAD software for
Linux.
Since more than 2 years, I'm planning to make also my CAD system.
The feature that I want for my modeler is cross-platform, not only Linux,
but also Windows ( a least the both ).
I think it should be available on many platform to allow to get the maximum
of users.
the quick roadmap for exoTKAD is following :
1/ 3d CAD Viewer (done)
2/ 3d Solid Modeler ( primitives with boolean operations )
3/ 2d sketcher with extrusion
I've seen that it is very difficult to continue a project while working and
having a life.
I cannot spend 5 hours per day to work on my project after 8-10 hours at
work.
And programming a CAD system is not an quick and easy task.
But I will try to continue.
I can give a few ords concerning the experience I get from exoTKAD:
the design of the application is very very important.
It is a very bad idea to directly go to the coding step before having some
good application design.
If not, the application will quickly become a spaghetti code repository.
So I spend most of my time doing the preliminary design of the application,
designing the application framework, create a strong separation between the
GUI and the core, etc....
Today, the fundation code is not yet finished.
It is the main reason why I don't search any contributors for the moment.
My idea is to work alone on the application 'til the version 1.0.
After that, I will see.
I hope I can help with the project of a new CAD system.
Let's see where we are going...
