OpenCascade was designed to be a modelling kernel. This means it provides as
its core services data structures
and algorithms to work on these data structures. For example, a data
structure could be a line, and a algorithm
could be something that calculates the intersection point between two lines.
Its all about data and data manipulation.
Hoops was designed to _display_ data, not to generate or manipulate it.
Hoops has no functions to
compute intersection point, tangent points, or something like that. Hoops
has no functions to
create or modify brep/csg data structures. But it can bring such structures
to your screen or the your printer.
This said, I have to admit that OpenCascade can also bring data to your
screen. But I think that Hoops
provides much better services to display data. For example, Hoops can render
data using OpenGL,
Windows GDI, X11, or Postscript. OC is not that flexible. That why I use
both systems for TomCAD.
OC for that data and data manipulation, Hoops to bring data to the screen.
@phostie:
Hope you get tomcad running on your system. I'm currently setting up a
debian machine, but I start with woody.
I will also provide a src package, so it will be possible to compile the
c/c++ based libs.
