in the words of douglas adams "don't panic".
on the initial start this happens. in fact it normally happens three times.
once at the first splash, once for a message on the accellerator table, and
finaly once for a message on updating Aliases. each time icad will make it
farther and farther thru the startup. once past these three points it will
start and run normally from then on.
when i first started running debian i had to switch from potato to sid just to
get current packages. at first it was fine. i had more things working
correctly than when i was running MDK(with the exception of dosemu).
as time went on things started to act funny(the price for running sid).
finally at one point i started having mouse trouble in Icad/Wine. anytime i
clicked in the drawing area it would lockup. i don't need tell anyone on this
list that this was unacceptable.
at first i was blaming Wine. the developers assured me that nothing had
changed that would cause this. finally in desparation i switched my
/etc/apt/sources.list to woody and updated my system. KABoom! everything
started working again.
if you are going to run SID expect more problems. i would really recomend
going to woody(or at least Sarge). if for no other reason the updates are
1/20th the size.
for those not familiar with Debian naming conventions, the different releases
are named after characters from toystory.
SID is the unstable untested branch. it tends to be bleeding edge, but breaks
often.
Sarge is the current Testing branch. it's packages have made it thru sid
without major problems.
Woody is the current Stable branch. if you want packages that have been tested
and run thru the ringers and comeout intact. this is it. the downside is
that the packages tend to be older.
i've also been hearing that those running Lycoris seem to be having the
same/similar mouse problem as i was with debian sid. maybe we can isolate this
problem. :-)
