i would no more suggest that your project is a waste of time than i would 
tell them not to bother.  they have good intentions.  and i hope they come 
through, but i don't think that we can hold our breath and wait on any one 
project.  I think that you are doing exactly what needs to be done.  I also 
hope some of the other projects on sourceforge combine and come to life.

there is no one cad package that fills everyones needs.  I think that there 
will be room for groups like the ITC., varicad and a few true opensource 
projects like Qcad and your's as well.  

and yes intellicad does rely heavily on MFC's
that's what's stoping a winelib port.  there is no complete free MFC 
replacement.
