Yes, I am trying to avoid the use of vba, but the tasks tend to be on a 
per-project basis.  I'm not writing a modeler or even a cad system here, I am 
just trying to automate a lot of custom items.  This makes it very useful to 
have some kind of graphical interface to configure the process, but the trick 
is that if you are going to use existing software, how do you link it to the 
database?  I can think of  several update-based methods, but the graphical 
interface wouldn't know anything about associativity when using a 
dumb-drawing, so the disconnect between what you edit and what you store 
becomes a challenge.
