Cool we have people on this list from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and every
where else.

there was a review of Varicad in LinuxJournal recently. not sure if you get
that there. i thought they were a little harsh. anyway, they have been
continually improving it over the years and I'm sure they are going to be
around for years to come.

also worth looking into is Qcad. from time to time people have unsubscribed
from this list. something that at first i took personally. when i email
them to ask why, they tell me that they unsubscribed because they found what
they needed. Qcad and Varicad seem to be the ones that they say they are
using most.

also toss in a vote for Intelicad/Wine.
:-)

Houdini is hard to beat. but Both Blender and the MoonlightModeler have been
GPL'd. they are both very good.

myself i use Ayam3d(formally Mops) and BMRT. BMRT is no longer availible, so
you may wish to look into Aqsis for rendering. the new versions of Ayam3D
use this for rendering RIBs.

i see someone just suggested Cycas. if i'm not correct they support Pov-Ray.
 another good render engine. something to consider.
