my exposure to pro/e was limited to a 2 day class i got to attend in about 92
or 93. the company i was with at the time was looking to change cad apps and
PTC sent some reps to show us how thing were done. i was more impressed with
pro/e then the reps(they bombed). what they showed us was basic solid
primatives, prisms, revolutions and boolean operations. i'm sure they have
advanced since then.
i currently run Catia V4 by day. V5 is a complete rewrite of Catia. each
solid is supposed to be a seperate model and the models combined to make
assemblies. the V4 interface was motif based with the text based menus on the
right. the V5 is supposed to be icon based and closer in appearance to
Unigraphics. with V4 ANY shape could be modeled in solids. this is why the
aircraft and automotive industies like it. the exteriors of cars and aircraft
are rarely flat and straight(ok, maybe in the 80s :-)). i'm assuming that V5
will continue in this respect.
i'll see if i can find some pro/e people to get more current feedback on it.
i know you wanted more but i hope that helps.

Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of DOS
and danced the skies on Linux silvered wings.
