and I expect the usual 'avalanche effect' which took place in the EDA
market where now you MUST have, as far as I know, your IC design tools
running under Linux...

The fact is, these tools, like CAD, are used by engineers (I am one).
Engineers are probably less likely to believe the marketroid types that
live their lifes making Powerpoint presentation, than the
non-technically minded person. So, the engineers in the cubicles would
love Linux tools, the problem so far was that the pinpointed hair
managers believed the Windows buzzwords. Now that 'Linux is cool' I
guess more pinpointed hair managers (which is where the ourchasing power
is) started to ask PTC and so...

So, once Pro/E is out, Catia will follow, and then who knows.

I am convinced that to start an open source CAD for Linux the best thing
to do is to start from OpenCascade and stick QT on it, like Mr.
Routelous is doing with ExoTKad http://exotk.sourceforge.net/

Maurizio
