Are you in Architecture? Or some other AEC field? I know that there are =
a lot of non-Architect CAD users on this e-mail list, so I was just =
wondering. If so, I've got some questions for you :)
I would love to get a open-source CAD software project going; but I'm =
not a software developer and don't have too much time. I was thinking a =
good alternative would be to create an 'open-source software for =
Architects' web site that talks about why open source and open standards =
are good for Architects along with places for people to talk about how =
they are using the software and to swap tips and code. This may lead to =
enough momentum to get a group together to start a real open-source =
software package. I don't know. Or maybe I should just help out with the =
AutoCAD on Wine efforts and forget about using parametric for now. Damn. =

I would certainly buy IntelliCAD or AutoCAD LT for Linux. Or if Revit =
became available, and had IFC support (which I think the next version =
will have, IIRC) then I know I'd buy it. Heck, the ONLY reason that I'm =
keeping my windows box at home is to use Revit. I might have to go with =
a dual-boot at home, but I'd rather just use Linux or OS X. Agggh. Still =
trying to figure out my long-term path for all this crap. The only =
things I've got figured out so far is to use Open Office for office =
stuff, evolution for e-mail, Radiance for rendering- now I just need to =
find a 3D modeler that I like for Linux or OS X and a CAD software and =
I'm set for the time being.
