I am using Suse 7.3
to install 8.1 for Linux I needed to download 

NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2313.suse73.i386.rpm 
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2313.suse73.i386.rpm

from nvidia site.

Varicad starts, but crashes almost immediately doing 'File -> open' or
Ctrl-N.

I am leaving for a 10 days business trip so I cannot investigate this,
which I forward to Varicad folks for their information.
