Mm, I don't think I was misunderstanding but I vonvrfr msnu og your
points. I suppose mine was that I think this list serves its purpose
and serves it well and serves it better than another location. I
know exactly what you're referring to about e-mail lists being passé
but I just don't see a forum or channel being more productive nor add
any value.
Maybe I'm just becoming an old fart too, but I think e-mail lists
encourage a little more careful thought that is generally given to
forums or channels. Moreover, those work well when the community has
a strong common interest. I don't think CAD on Linux has that bond
just yet. Some users have commercial interests representing their
code, some are strongly biased towards open source (like myself I
admit), others towards a particular domain like machining or
drafting, etc.
While it certainly might bring more energy to a bulletin board simply
because the barrier is lower, I don't see it adding constructive
value or talent that wouldn't just as likely participate on the
mailing list.. Maybe that's just me though. For me, it]s more an
issue of having a well-defined purpose/goal/scope for the group and
progressively working towards that goal.
Cheers!
