We learnt a whole lot of things from your field, you know? As far as
I know, one of the most useful concepts in programming today, the
Design Patterns, come from the concepts devised by an architect,
Cristopher Alexander.

I'm trying to do exactly that. :-)
See a few messages from the past weeks about NetCAD or download
http://practicaltux.sourceforge.net/cad-0.0.2.tar.gz (it's just 10k).
I haven't been doing much work on it recently because the next step
involves skills I haven't yet (if any reader has experience in yacc,
lex and the creation of macro processors, feel free to say hello :-)
).
(By the way, anybody who's seen this approach cares to comment on it?
Sometimes I feel it leaves so many directions open that is hard to
tell which one to go, I'd really appreciate input.)
Massimiliano
