I too am an Architect looking for something to run on Linux; however
there isn't much yet. There are AutoCAD-ish systems; like Cycas
(http://www.cycas.de/). There are also 3D parametric systems
like Octree CAD (http://www.octree.de/). Both are limited in
comparison to a commercial system at this time, but are worth
a try. I've been unsuccessful so far running AutoDesk Revit
(AutoDesk's somewhat-successor to Architectural Desktop, Revit's
more like 'Inventor for Architects') on Wine; and I know that
people are able to run some lesser versions of AutoCAD on Wine,
but I haven't heard of anyone running ADT on Wine.

If you need something like a 2D/3D solution that has the same
level of functionality as ADT but runs on Unix, you may want to
look into ArchiCAD on Mac OS X. That way you would be able to
run Unix, use other common Linux tools (the majority of which
run on Mac these days) but still have a full AEC suite to work with.

However, if you're looking for a open-source (free or cheap)
replacement for ADT/Revit/ArchiCAD, I regret to say that I haven't
found one yet, and that it will be a while before there is such
a thing available.
