I don't think we need more Architects working for the big software houses,
they have plenty already. They shouldn't try to be all things to all
people.
What we need are more Architects giving the right kind of input. For
instance
Brad Schell (co-founder of @Last) came from Autodesk. Why didn't he
create SketchUp while he was there? That piece of software was developed
with the RIGHT kind of input. I think one of the problems is that we as
professionals all have a slightly different take on what 'right' is.
Look at the
variance in designs we would come up with, given the same set of criteria.
