I'm glad you were able to come up with a solution, even though it isn't 
necessarily what you would have wanted.  As for the problem using memdisk, I 
think you would get great support if you posted your problem on the syslinux 
mailing list.  Unfortunately my Linux background is very limited; I'm not sure 
what the problem is or if it can be fixed.

Ok just to verify, GRUB works without hitch when using a 1.44 Mb floppy image 
and Diskemu?  I'll check it out and see if I can identify the problem.  I 
remember seeing a couple things that looked wrong when I ported the Diskemu 
code, and one of those things might be biting us in this case.
