I just received notification that a Swainson's Thrush that I had banded as a
hatch-year
bird in Oct 2006 at Roan Mtn., TN-NC was recaptured by another bander in mid
May
2008 near Toronto, Ontario.
That's approximately 525 miles due north of the banding site.
Of course, this bird had made two trips to its wintering grounds in South
America
(fide AOU check-list) and was making its second trip back to the breeding
grounds in
eastern Canada.
Talk about frequent flier miles, those migrants never fail to amaze.
