Bristol Birders:
While on South Holston Lake last night, Ken Hale and I had
the first fall records of a Lesser Yellowlegs (1) and Least Sandpiper (1).
We also saw two Spotted Sandpipers.
The birds were in "Browns Cove" at the Brown's dairly farm near
Camp Sequoya on South Holston Lake in Washington County, VA.
The mudflats there are well exposed, wet, and in good conditions.
Since we have lots of Charter Net subscribers and Charter was
having problems delivering mail on Wednesday, I will repeat a few
birds that Chris O'Bryan and I reported in postings:
We had an immature Bald Eagle Wednesday (8/7) over Lake Road,
Camp Sequoya, South Holston Lake, Washington, Co., VA. It was
an immature and was soaring 200 ft. bove us. We watched it
for five minutes in direct sun.
The same day we our first fall record of a Bobolink. It was seen in
Quarry Bog, Shady Vaalley, Johnson County, TN.
Chris posted two nice messages on Bristol Birds and also we had an
Osprey at Musick's Campground along with three (3) Forster's Terns
on Wednesday. At least on Forster's Tern was still in the area late
Thursday. Green Herons are migrating north thru the area as part
of their vagrant movement. You can see two or three along the shoreline
at almost any vantage point.
