Photo by Jennifer Meade Jennifer Meade, who has been doing a super job helping us with our Bald Eagle work this year, found two adult birds on the Clinch River nest in Hancock County, TN, 4.5 miles upriver from Kyles Ford Bridge on Horton's Ford Road this morning. This photo is probably evidence that the egg(s) have hatched at this site. A series of photos shared with us by Jennifer, from this morning, clearly shows the apparent female focused and attentive to the nest contents. The male is seen to leave the nest without the female breaking concentration on the contents. This nest is known to be in its sixth year of occupancy by the pair and the outside depth of the nest sticks shows the continual growth of the structure from the pair adding new nesting material each year. At least one, if not both, of the adults are an estimated 11 years or more of age. Jennifer went to Kyles Ford to check on the eagles' welfare following the storms: "River very high, near road in places. Tree trunks appeared to have had water possibly 2 feet higher than this morning's level. Water color---near chocolate milk. Not good for fishing!" She found the nest to appear unscathed after week's of turbulent weather. She found both adults sitting on the nest 10:30-11:00 am. It was cold and windy with snow flurries. She noted the nest tree was experiencing considerable swaying. Jennifer has been keeping a watch on the nesting pair of Bald Eagles near Kyles Ford all winter. She has made an effort to go there every couple of weeks. She has also collected whatever information she could on eagles along the Clinch River in Dungannon and in the vicinity of Stanton Creek bridge construction on Hwy 65 and also along Hwy 65 closer toward Fort Blackmore, all in Virginia. Her help has been important and appreciated. Thanks also go to Ron and Rose Lapp for their help in reporting on eagles in the vicinity during February as everything began to develop. Let's go birding . . . . Wallace Coffey Bristol, TN
