Subject: eagles nest at south holston lake

We were forwarded your email by one of our local birders and thought you might
be interested in some more info about the nest in your email.

My husband and I live in Lebanon but have a home at the lake. We actually
first sited the nest in June of last year after seeing the birds flying in the
area. At one point one of the eagles sat on the limb of a tree directly
across the lake in front of our home with its wings at full spread for close
to an hour. Needless to say, we so thrilled at its majesty. We continued to
see the birds flying but never actually saw them in the nest. We called Bob
Riggs to tell him of our siting but he did not come to see it.

On the fourth of July, our neighbor set off fireworks display for several hours
and after that time, we did not see the birds again. We wondered if the noise
had scared them away.

Then yesterday while at the lake again, we saw an eagle flying and thought it
had gone behind the mountain, but then noticed that it was in the nest. We
watched it for at least 30-40 minutes and it appeared to be active in the nest.
Today , we went back and watched it again. At one point, it must have left
the nest , because we saw it come back into the nest and seemed almost to be
feeding- (possibly some young????) The nest is clearly visible with our
telescope ---binoculars not so good.

We also talked with our neighbor who tells us that when the water levels were
so very low, and the island was visible near the cove, that there were 4
eagles who played together for at least 2 hours.

This is all very exciting to us and thought you might be interested. We have
been hesitant to tell too many folks for fear that there might be some who want
to harm them rather than to appreciate this wonderful treasure.
