[Bristol-Birds] Re: bristol-birds Digest V6 #69

For those of us who have not been coming to these meetings for the last 20
years:
What is the date of your meeting? Where is the Mad Greek? What building at
ETSU? What time? Please help increase your numbers by considering those who
might like to be among them.
  Best,
  Martha Podren

We will be meeting at ETSU/Bristol for the monthly meeting. The program
will be on recent trip to Panama by Dave Worley. Should be a great
program. We have some important info about upcoming activities at
Natural Tunnel State Park and the TOS Spring Meeting in Bristol. I was
up at NTSP this weekend and thought I heard a Prairie Warbler --- it was
30 degrees, snowing, but that song is unmistakable ---- and I'm sure I
was not suffering from heat stroke and hallucinations!

We will meet at the Mad Greek for dinner and bird talk at 6 PM.

During the week March 11 - March 17, I have seen/heard 41 species
in/on/over/from our property and 53 for the year. There were some pretty good
birds in
the total. This is a sample (note the asterisks for number or species):
03/11 - Northern Flicker (2), Eastern Meadowlark (2), Pileated Woodpecker,
Red-winged Blackbird (2 males), Cooper's Hawk (female), Red-tailed Hawk (male),
Killdeer, Eastern Towhee (male).
03/12 - Eastern Phoebe, Belted Kingfisher, Common Grackle (5), Red-winged
Blackbird (male), Black Vultures*(5), Red-tailed Hawk (pair), Northern Flicker,
Eastern Towhee (male).
03/13 - American Robin *(80 in a flock), Pileated Woodpecker, Killdeer,
*Brown Creeper, Red-tailed Hawk, Field Sparrow, Eastern Towhee (male).
03/14 - Field Sparrow, Common Grackle, Killdeer, Eastern Meadowlark (2),
Northern Flicker, Eastern Phoebe *(3), Red-winged Blackbird (male), Turkey
Vulture, Eastern Towhee (male).
03/15 - Northern Flicker (2), Slate-colored Junco *(15), Eastern Phoebe,
*Hairy Woodpecker (pair), *Brown Creeper, *Golden-crowned Kinglet, Eastern
Meadowlark, Red-winged Blackbird, Great Blue Heron, *Cedar Waxwing (7).

Mourning Dove (22), Great Blue Heron, White-throated Sparrow (4), House Finch
(2 males and 2 females), Turkey Vulture *(12), Eastern Phoebe, Pileated
Woodpecker, Eastern Towhee (male).
These were all seen while doing yard or housework, not birding per se. Many
of the days I was gone for a good portion of the day and saw the birds before
or afterwards.
