Enjoying my family of Carolina Wrens this evening at my
home in Bristol Tennessee. The are amazingly busy little
parents.
One of the parents had all of the little ones from the season's
first brood scampering along the small branches and the trunks
of the big oaks right off my front porch about 8:30 p.m. Much
noisy and calling.
About 15 feet away, another parent has built a second nest
for the season and it is in my "double Sultana" hanging basket.
To beat it all, she has three eggs and is incubating them in
her compact mossy nest ! I think she will lay more.
This is what wrens do. Nothing new. Just something fun.
Now I have to be real careful about watering the basket,
especially at dark when I can't tell what I am doing. This is
always tricky because Sultana have to drink regularly or they
droop and cry. Wrens tolerate the watering as long as I
don't flood their nest :)
Let's go birding . . . .
