In a brief trip to the Jonesborough/Boone's Creek area this afternoon, I
observed 178 Wild Turkeys, as follows:
25 on Highway 354 approximately 1 mile north of Jonesborough;
33 on Crouch Road 0.2 mile from Pickens Bridge Road;
120 on Hale's Chapel Road 0.1 mile from Shadden Road.
The Hale's Chapel sighting was particularly memorable. The birds were
feeding in the field a short distance above the head of the pond at the
intersection of Shadden Road and Hale's Chapel Road. They appeared to
have just spilled from the woodlot beyond the field, dark gumdrops
rolling slowly downhill.
