Visited Wilbur Lake to see who was still there. Many (~40 Buffleheads), Eastern Bluebirds, Eastern Phoebe (a pair), Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture and Belted Kingfisher. Between there and home. Saw a Eastern Meadowlark (campground north of Bristol Motor Speedway), a gyro at the Mad Greek --- had to make up for missing the pre-meeting meal in February. The company was lacking, and an American Kestrel on Exide Road. Stopped at the Greenbelt in Kingsport using the entrance from American Way. Was checking to see if there was any night herron activity. None, but..... in the large sycamore tree about 100 yards west of the entrance there is hawk nesting. I believe that I saw a pair swapping off and it looked as if one was feeding young at one time. It is difficult to see because of the height. Looks like a Red-shouldered Hawk. I did get a good look at the upper side of the tail which was dark with white bands. This is at the 3rd bench which is (~250 feet) past the sign that says ".75", there is a large nest which is above the nests that were used by the herons in 2003. I watched for about 45 minutes and when they swapped at one time there was a lot of calling and I heard what sounded like a Eastern Screech Owl behind me (on the north side of the walkway). Also saw a pair of Wood Ducks on a branch about 30 feet below the hawk's nest. When I arrived the woods were resounding with the calls of frogs which would provide a suitable food source for the hawks. Other birds on the Greenbelt were Northern Cardinal, Carolina Chickadee, Mallards.
