Area birders,
You are invited to join Greeneville TOS in a birding trip to the western
part of Greene County this Saturday, March 25.
A major destination for the trip is the Joachime Bible Refuge unit of
Lick Creek Bottoms Wildlife Management Area on South Mohawk Road. This
is the site where Short-eared Owls have been seen several times
recently. We also plan to check the Great Blue Heron nesting site on
Pate's Hill Road and to look for Rusty and Brewer's Blackbirds at
several other areas. There is also a good possibility for shorebirds,
swallows, and various other arriving migrants.
Our group is gathering at Homestead Family Restaurant on the western
side of Greeneville at 2:30 and will leave from there. The Homestead
is located along Highway 11-E (West Andrew Johnson Highway) just west of
the downtown exit. The Homestead's address is 3124 West Andrew Johnson
Highway. It is very easy to find. If you're coming from I-81, travel
on 11-E toward Greeneville about 8-10 miles, and you'll see it on the
left. If you're coming from Washington County, proceed through
Greeneville on 11-E , and you'll see it on the right less than a mile
past the Summer Street exit to the downtown. (You can also plug the
address into the search box on www.mapquest.com and obtain driving
directions.) Finally, if you need additional assistance, please feel
free to e-mail me privately.
It should be a good trip. I hope to see you Saturday.
