On Saturday, Dec. 20, I had a Swamp Sparrow at home in the field dominated by
a stand of cattails. There were also several Song Sparrows in the vicinity.
On Sunday, Dec. 21, I had a single Pine Siskin at my feeders in the morning.
By mid-afternoon, I had about 40 Pine Siskins. I guess it's appropriate they
put in their first official appearance on the first day of winter, although I
have heard what I thought were siskin trills, off and on, for a few weeks.
