[Bristol-Birds] Re: Swainson's Thrush, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Yellow-breasted Chat, etc. (Greene Co., TN)

Don Miller and all birders,

We certainly have come a long ways since Bruce Tyler and Bob Lyle reported
the House Wren present in Johnson City in the June 1934 issues of THE
MIGRANT, Tennessee's journal of ornithology. The species was not known to
nest in Tennessee 72 years ago.

Your 41 House Wrens today in Greene County is an interesting note when you
look back in THE MIGRANT, Dec. 1948, when J. B. White first reported the
species nesting at Greeneville in April 1947.

In 1952, White and others had counted 21 twenty-one House Wrens at
Greeneville. They were there to stay.

The documentation of all this is one of the rich and valuable contributions
in
the many pages of THE MIGRANT. I researched and wrote this account and post
in about 10 minutes tonight, using the new searchable disc of the digital
"The Migrant 1930-2004" which will be soon sold at the Tennessee
Ornithological Society spring meeting in Nashville.

Don, that was good work counting the House Wrens today in Greene County.
Think about this great resource of historic information just a keyboard away
for serious students of Tennessee birdlife.

Let's go birding.......
