[Bristol-Birds] South Holston level on track for migration

South Holston Lake's water level (measured by elevation) has been rising
sharply during the last few days and the outer bank access at Musick's
Campground has again been slightly cut off by a few inches of water covering
the gravel road leading to the best viewing area. At 2 p.m. today the lake
level is at 1722.46 feet.

It is predicted to drop by 5.25 inches by midnight Tuesday (Sept. 12).

In the operation guide chart to the left, the red line indicates the water
levels for this year (2006).

The black line indicates the water levels for last year (2005).

Note that we got a jump on the drawdown in mid-July at just the perfect time
for shorebirds and other water bird migration. The recent inflo is 390 cubic
feet per second at 1 p.m. today (Sunday) on the South Fork Holston at Damascus,
Va.

Also the lake level is now back to the normal expected at this date so we are
on good track for more migration.

This week's weather forecast calls for a significant chances of rain so we may
have some good early-morning birding at Musick's, especially if the rainfall is
heavy enough to bring down migrants.
