Bill Grigsby and Bristol Area Birders:

The down feathers you see at the Red-shouldred Hawk nest are are part of the
lining of the nest by the adults. At several of the nests of these species
I have seen, you can see down feathers hanging in the lower shrubs and
understory trees beneath the nest. The down feathers blow out of the nest
and drift down into the lower vegetation and some of them drift out into the
woods away from the nest. Sometimes you discover a Red-shouldered's nest by
first seeing a lot of white down in the trees around you. You then begin to
search above and there is the nest !

That was an interesting and valuable report, Bill. Glad someone is posting
the activities at the tailwater Great Blue Heron colony.

Take care.

Let's go birding.....
