Sugar Grove-Blue Springs Birding Loop
Smyth County, VA

Participants: Wallace Coffey, Randy Smith, and Ron Harrington
This route is nine miles in southeastern part of Smyth County. We started in 
Sugar Grove, VA and drove east through a beautiful, and somewhat remote, 
pastoral setting to the Blue Springs area near Cedar Springs, VA.  (Rtes. 
695-677-Right on 612-Left on 675, Left on 614). Elevation ranged from 2780-2600.

Driving back on Cedar Springs Road we saw 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers at Elev. 
2700. At the Sugar Grove Diner we saw a Sharp-shinned Hawk. While looking for 
Blue-winged Warblers on the South Holston Road below Teas, VA, we heard a 
Yellow-breasted Chat (Elev. 2460).
