[Bristol-Birds] Re: Shovler & Blue-wg Teal in Kingsport

Glen et al.

21 Feb is an early arrival date for Blue-wg. Teal in the 5-county
area of NE Tenn; but, there is at least one over-wintering record, too.

Subject: [Bristol-Birds] Shovler & Blue-wg Teal in Kingsport

Taking a short drive along the South Fork Holston Sluice bordering Riverport
Road in Kingsport today (Feb 21) I found a good variety of ducks. A pair of
Shovelers, 1 Blue-wing Teal (my first for the year), 14 Gadwall, 5 Hooded
Mergansers and the usual Mallards.
Along Netherland Inn Drive at Riverfront Resturant I had the "resident" Spotted
Sandpiper, approximately 8-10 Yellow-rump Warblers and a Red Shouldered
Hawk. Further on west on Netherland Inn Drive I had the usual: 25-35
Ring-billed Gulls, 50 + Coots, 20 Canada Geese and approx 30 Mallards. On the
island below the bridge were 9 Cormorants in the trees and 3 Great Blue Herons
standing on nests in the top of the sycamore trees.
The Blue-wing Teal seems to be an early spring date ????
