[Bristol-Birds] Saturday/Sunday birds

23 April on I26E I, Bill Cawood, saw a kestrel in full hover over the roadside.

Sunday while checking on a patch of pink lady slipper orchids (they have not
emerged yet) on Powell Mtn in Scott County VA I, Bill Cawood, saw several
birds. Some were a surprise to me since there was 5 inches of snow on the
ground at that altitude.

3 pairs of ovenbirds , M&F They would run in front of the truck and I had to
avoid hitting them. One male had iceballs on his feet from running in snow.
(the gravel road was clean of snow.

1 pair of hooded warblers, M & F I had never seen a hooded warbler in the
wild. The male's cap and face were very distinct and brilliant.

4 juncos at different sites along the road. One was "balled up" and looked
like a rock. He flew when I approached to try to get a better look at one of
the ovenbirds.

After driving back down into Powell Valley I saw a GBH in Butcher's Fork
foraging for fsh in a snow squall.

While an odd day for birding, the site of the ovenbirds and hooded warbler were
fantastic.
