[Bristol-Birds] Sage Thrasher Success

7 DEC 03
Island Cove
Knoxville,TN
.
Bristol Birders Sam Cross, Tom McNeil, Don Holt and I observed the Sage
Thrasher in Knox Co. this afternoon for about one hour after it was located by
Tom.
I captured about 10 minutes of video of the thrasher. Strange how I got this
species as a life bird in my home state after missing it in 5 different states
of it's normal range! That's birding for ya.
To be noted here is the Don Holt technique of, well, being very still. Others
were patroling the island as Don lay in weight for our target mere feet from
where Tom happened upon it. Good team work guys!
.
Later we tried for the Maryville,TN Hummer without success. We did observe a
Cooper's Hawk in the yard feasting on a smaller bird. I was able to
'digiscope' the hawk with a PDA fixed focus camera.
.
Our sincere thanks go to Susan Hoyle for leading the thrasher trip and to Ann
Talent for warm hospitality at her home in Maryville.
.
'Til we bird again
