The Russell County Bird Club met for a field trip on Saturday 3-1 to the Elk Garden, Corn Valley and Clifton Farms area of Russell County. The field trip was led by Tom Hunter. Participants were Roy Knispel, Peggy Herbert, Diana Singleton, Don Carrier, Dave Worley, Jerry and Jane Thornhill, Fred and Janice Martin and Tom and Laverne Hunter. The weather was sunny but windy and cool. The birding highlights included 2 Golden Eagles, 17 Red-tailed Hawks, 7 American Kestrels, 1 Coopers Hawk, 2 Loggerhead Shrikes and 150+ male Red-winged Blackbirds flying in a tight formation with red epaulets shining in the sun.
