Subject: Rufous Hummingbird in Galax

After a fairly productive morning in the field birding around
the western side of Galax I returned home for a short lunch and
had the best bird of the day. I had a Rufous Hummingbird feeding
in my butterfly bush and feeder. This is the first sighing I have
had in the southwestern VA area of anything but Ruby-throated Hummers.
My morning birding also produced some good birds in the west side of
the Galax area:  Lincolns, Swamp, Song, Chipping & Field Sparrows;
Tree Swallows; Palm, Tennessee & Blackpoll Warblers; Common Yellow-
throat; Kestrel; Red-tailed Hawk; Great Blue Heron; Bobolink & Phoebe.
