[Bristol-Birds] Ross's Goose, American Woodcock (Greene Co., TN)

November 18-19, 2008

Greene County

Yesterday evening at about 6:15 and then again today at about 5:55 p.m., I
heard the wing whirr of an American Woodcock in a field along Brown's Bridge
Road in Tusculum. On both occasions, I was unable to find the bird visually in
the fading twilight.

Today I found two Ross's Geese grazing in a field along Gravel Woods Road near
the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. Interestingly, I also found the species in
Greene County on November 18-19, 2006 (at two sites) and on November 17, 2007.
Over the years, whenever I have been lucky enough to find ROGO, I have often
returned shortly thereafter in hopes of re-locating them, but I have seldom had
luck the second time around. They appear to hang around only very briefly.
