Bristol Birders,
I decided to make a detour on my way to work this morning and head to
Roger
Mayhorn's house on Compton Mountain here in Buchanan County. Roger's place
seems to be a magnet for migrating species and this morning was no
exception. I only had about 30 minutes for birding but managed to find
several migrants including Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Scarlet Tanagers,
Tennessee Warblers (many), Yellow-throated Warblers, Hooded Warblers, a
Magnolia Warbler and a Prairie Warbler. The warblers moved through the
trees in groups of 5-10 and it was impossible to get most of them
identified. At one point there were 15 warblers in one small walnut tree.
I also watched a Broad-winged Hawk fly over - heading south.
