[Bristol-Birds] Red-necked Grebe (South Holston Lake)

Area Birders:

Larry McDaniel and I identified a Red-necked Grebe near Musick's Campground
just after noon today (Sun. 3/7). The bird was originally seen in the
Tennessee waters but was last observed in Washington Co., VA and then along
the stateline in the Sullivan Co. portion of the main channel of South
Holston Lake.

It was a first winter bird. The grebe was mostly along the shoreline near
Washington County Park and required scopes to clearly see and identify.

We also had 8 or 9 Horned Grebes in the main channel in Tennessee.

Larry had some other good birds elsewhere in the region on Sunday and will
probably post more details both on those and perhaps other birds at Musick's
Campground. I did not make a complete list of the birds near Musick's.

Let's go birding......
