I had at least a pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers (maybe 3 - but not confirmed
as it could have been one of the first two by itself as it was within about
1/2 hour between each sighting but at a different location) on the outside
perimeter of the Fossil Site in Gray, TN. Also present around the perimeter of
the
fossil site were Common Grackles, Northern Mockingbird, and Chipping Sparrows.
The Gray Fossil site is located about 2 miles south/southwest on on Hwy 75 in
Washington County, TN. Another way to reach the site is the back way from
Johnson City to Gray - Via Knob Creek Rd (very briefly on Boones Creek Hwy
[west]) to Shadden Rd, to Fulkerson Rd where the road now dead ends into a
cul-de-sac before reaching Hwy 75.
