Fellow Birders,
This week I had a new yard bird, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO. It just about got by me
because it was in the yard at the same time as a few TN WARBLERS. I'm still
seeing a few BLACK-THROATED GREENS, BLACK-AND-WHITES and AMERICAN REDSTARTS.
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS seem to be the most numerous species at the moment,
along with SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, CEDAR WAXWINGS and EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. The
thrushes and waxwings are coming to feed on the Poke Berries and Dogwood
Berries.
While wading and fishing yesterday near Haysi, VA under a perfect blue sky, I
had great looks at an OSPREY, a GREAT BLUE HERON and several BELTED
KINGFISHERS. By the way I caught several Smallmouth Bass.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
Grundy, VA
Buchanan County
