The migration of Common Nighthawks also kicked in with a vengeance at my home
on Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, Carter Co., this evening (Mon. Aug. 25).
I watched 100+ Nighthawks as they swept back and forth along the center of
the valley, back and forth, east to west.
At one point, I saw a very small "bird" with the flock. A closer look
revealed not a bird, but a bat. Sorry, but I'm not at all expert on bats, so it
will
just have to go down as bat species.
All in all, it was a very impressive flight of nighthawks.
In addition, saw several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and a couple of Cedar
Waxwings.
No warblers today, but on Sunday, I had a male and female Hooded Warbler
together in a locust tree.
