[Bristol-Birds] Night-Heron at Middlebrook Lake -- 9 p.m. Sunday

14 Dec 2008
Middlebrook Lake
Bristol, Tennessee
Sullivan County

In the darkness at 9 p.m. Sunday, I observed a
Black-crowned Night-Heron standing in the
lake about 150 feet out from the shoreline. It
was amazing that the water was apparently
not more than a few inches deep that far from
shore. The depth of the water only came about
half way up its legs. The bird was just out from
the swimming pool parking lot. Sarah Garrett
and Kevin Hamed, while studying winter
waterfowl population there in winter nearly a
decade ago, first called to our attention how
shallow the water is in this upper end.

Let's go birding . . . .
