I stopped by the Nicewonder Pond (Exit 10, I-81, Washington County, VA) this
afternoon. In addition to the usual Canada Geese, I counted approximately 53
Ring-necked ducks, 8 Am. Wigeon, 7 Gadwall, 3 Redhead, 3 Mute Swans, and 4
Mallards. Last week my high count for the Ring-necked ducks was 103.
In the field beyond, I spotted six Wild Turkey, all young males (jakes),
playing around in the open field with deer browsing nearby. What a site!
