Here is the Mendota Hawk Watch Report as of 9/22/08. It appears that we are
past the peak of the Broad-winged hawk migration as the numbers have decreased
dramatically. Those helping on 9/22/08 were Jennifer Kennedy, Allen Gill, Ron
Harrington, Pat Carroll, Gina Kiser, Carolyn Carter, Sue Carter, Bill Charles,
and Ron Pendleton.
Species 9/22/08 YTD*
Broad-winged hawk: 85 4534
Am. Bald Eagle: -- 12
Osprey: 1 12
Sharp-shinned hawk: 1 11
Cooper's hawk: 1 9
Am. Kestrel: -- 5
Northern Harrier: -- 5
Merlin: -- 1
Red-shouldered hawk: 1 2
*The YTD does not include data from 9/14 & 9/16.
Other: Red-headed WP: -- 3
We also had a couple of local Red-tailed hawks, the usual array of Black and
Turkey vultures, and Ravens calling in the distance.
There will not be regular coverage at the tower the remainder of this week. If
you go up and no one is keeping a tally, send the numbers to me at
roneharrin@xxxxxxxxxxx, or you can post on Bristol Birds. I hope to send out a
final report for this season by September 30. Thanks.
