[Bristol-Birds] Mendota Hawk Watch 9/18

On Saturday, 9/18/04, between 1 PM and 6 PM, at Mendota Fire Tower, Marion
Finucane, Chris Morgan and I counted
258 Broad-winged Hawks
8 Ospreys
1 Red-shouldered Hawk
2 American Kestrels
9 Red-headed Woodpeckers
2 Double-crested Cormorants
3 Ruffed Grouse
3 Palm Warblers
1 Bay-breasted Warbler
2 Common Ravens

On 9/19, I somehow missed George Carlin. Guess I was busy looking at hawks.
However, George Larkins was there and he's a pretty funny guy too. Jean
Montgomery was also there.

What a spectacular day! It just doesn't get any better than that. I don't
believe more hawks would have increased the enjoyment. Maybe an eagle or two,
or a peregrine, or a Swallow-tailed Kite. A large number of the broadwings were
close enough that we could see tail bands without using binoculars.
