Mendota Hawk Watch Report for 9/25/06
It was another beautiful day at the Mendota Hawk Watch. Sue Carter brought
ten students from Twin Springs High School and they were treated to a variety
of
hawks, but no large kettles of Broad-winged hawks. The highlight for Sue and
her Ecology class was an American Bald Eagle (immature) that came by the tower
during the 11:00 a.m. time frame. They also got to see Cooper's hawk,
Sharp-shinned hawk, Am. Kestrel, Broad-winged hawk, Red-tailed hawk, and an
Osprey.
The usual array of Black Vultures, Turkey Vultures, Ravens, and Chimney Swifts
were all around us. Bob Riggs and Ron Harrington were today's observers. The
site was manned from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
This was my last day for this season. If you visit the site this week and see
hawks, send the totals to me so I can include in the final report. Thanks.
