My wife, Jane, and I drove across the mountain to Saltville this morning. We
found the pair of Long-tailed Ducks reported earlier. This was about 9:15 this
morning. They were oblivious to our presence, diving and swimming at close
range to our vehicle. We watched them for perhaps 15 minutes getting great
looks from many angles.
We also drove north of Saltville to check on the Great Blue Heron nests along
the North Fork of the Holston river. There were 7 birds on the nests this
morning.
